 How old is our current building?
            The oldest part is 75 years old.
 Why do we need a new facility?
          Our current facility is 75 years old and has served the school district for many years. However, this facility has many areas that are a concern to the school administration.
Where would the new facility be located?
          The new facility would be located on 6th Street, just east of the Atoka High School baseball field.
Will the new facility be larger than the current facility?
          Yes, the new facility would ensure the school district room for future growth.
Who will be paying for this bond?
            The property owners within the Atoka School District.
What can the bond money be used for?
            The funds will be for the purpose of constructing, equipping, repairing, and remodeling school buildings, acquiring school furniture, fixtures and equipment and acquiring and improving school sites.

Atoka Elementary currently teaches 431 of Atoka kids from Pre-K to 5th grade! This number is increasing yearly. AES has increased number of classrooms in certain grades to accommodate this, and is now at capacity in those rooms as well! Our Pre-K classrooms currently have a waiting list due to capacity.
Atoka Elementary puts academic success as top priority with students, engaging them in multilevel, interactive curriculum which meets the needs of all students. 100% of AES teachers meet Highly Qualified Standards by the State Dept. of Education.
Atoka Elementary has consistently shown increasing student performance in state test scores exceeding state benchmarks.
Atoka Elementary has curriculum aligned with our districts’ Middle School, ensuring a smooth transition to those grades and student academic success!
Atoka Elementary students benefit from weekly enrichment classes in Music, Spanish, Computer Lab, Library, Nutrition and Character Education, as well as 3 days of Physical Education weekly! Special Needs are met through a full time speech pathologist, and scheduled occupational and physical therapy. Offering the widest variety of enrichment in our county, this creates a very balanced and well rounded educational experience!
Atoka Elementary is comprised of a diverse ethnic environment with students from as many as 10 various cultural backgrounds.
Atoka Elementary offers programs for students who excel in extracurricular activities, including an Honor Choir, Challenging Student Investigations, Basketball Teams, Gymnastics Team, Track and Field Team, AES Cheer Squad and AES Community Ambassadors!
Atoka Elementary holds a before school and after school program in partnership with the 21st Century Grant Program which benefits approximately ¼ of the student body.
Atoka Elementary has received the Improving Literacy through School Libraries for the last two years which has enabled AES to provide motivating, engaging literature from many genres and reading levels as well as add to an extensive list of thousands of quizzes available for students. 
Atoka Elementary provides a challenging, well-rounded educational experience for all students. It’s a great place to be!

Our Current Elementary…
  • Has maintenance costs currently hurting the district
  • Is NOT handicap accessible
 
  • Is currently very difficult to lock down for safety purposes due to building layout 
  • Has a very congested drop off/pick up zone
 
  • Is 75 years old
  • Was not designed for an elementary and was a temporary solution for the district
  • Has very little parking 
  • Wood structure has significant water damage
 
  • 75 year old plumbing has very little water pressure 
  • Clay tile plumbing limits ability for toilets to flush properly
  • Current restrooms cannot accommodate number of students
  • Is at capacity for number of students currently at 431, and growing
 
A New Elementary…
  • Will allow for growth and expansion to accommodate increase in student population
  • Will be up to code meeting all state requirements regarding accessibility, safety, and fire codes
  • Will have ample parking areas
  •  Will be located adjacent to other district facilities, allowing school personnel easier/quicker travel from one site to another 
  • Will have an improved traffic flow, designed to accommodate drop off/pick up zones and bus zones with safety the number one priority
  • Will be designed to allow administration to safely and securely lock down building for emergencies and manage traffic flow of those entering facility
  • Will be a healthy, clean, and safe environment for student learning
 
  • Will be designed exclusively for the use of our district’s youngest students
  • Will be built on property already owned by Atoka Public Schools, adjacent to current middle school and high school sites

I understand that something needs to be done, but it would be less expensive to fix the current problems rather than build a new (and larger) facility.
