"DISTANCE LEARNING EXPECTATIONS
In order for students to receive high-quality educational programming through distance learning, there are minimum standards of practice that must be in place. Atoka Public Schools aim to provide a high-quality educational experience that maximizes student learning and is comparable to what one would receive through traditional, on-campus learning. Because of the nature of distance learning, it is important that the school district, student, and parents commit the time and energy needed to complete it successfully . The Distance Learning Contract sets out standards and expectorations that will be in place for virtual learning.
Students must apply for and be deemed eligible by the school to begin or continue to participate in distance learning. Factors used to determine if a student is eligible for distance learning included but are not limited to the following: good attendance, good academic standing, good discipline record, adequate computer skills, previous/current distance learning success, and the ability/ willingness to work independently.
In order to plan the staffing and logistics of both distance and in person learning environments, the choice to attend either virtually or in person must be made for each student on a full semester basis. The school will however, continually evaluate the success of each student participating in distance learning. If a student is not meeting performance standards, as determined by the site principal and teacher, or if the student/parent fails to abide by terms of the contract, the student's privilege of distance learning will be subject to immediate termination; and the student will be required to attend in person classes or be dropped form enrollment.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Students will be expected to complete and submit all coursework on time. Student participation including completed and submitted work will determine student attendance. Failure to participate, complete and submit work could result in truancy.
Students are expected to complete their own assignments, projects, and tests. All student work is to be completed by the student and not completed or aided by others.
Students will be expected to access their courses daily and check their school email regularly for communication from their teacher. This includes Distance Learning Days as designated by the school.
Students will not be "held harmless" in academics while distance learning. Grades earned in the distance learning environment will be added to transcripts and become part of the academic record.
Student must adhere to the Atoka Public School Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use of Policy as defined in the student handbook while enrolled as a student in Atoka Public School.
Students in the distance learning program will be required to take all grade level assessments, benchmark testing (MAPS), and End of Year exams as required by state law and district policy. The grade level assessments and End of Year Examinations will be completed by Atoka Public School campuses and administered by Atoka Public School staff.
Athletics and extra-curricular activates may require daily in-person interaction to participate.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Parents fully acknowledge that success in distance learning is largely dependent upon the work and effort put forth by the student.
Parents will ensure that their child has the necessary equipment and internet access to participate in distance learning.
Parents will provide their child with safe and appropriate place to work while at home.
Parents should become familiar with digital platforms their child is using and frequently ask their child to see/review his/her coursework and progress.
Please encourage your child to seek help from the teacher, as needed.
Parents will ensure that all assignments, projects, and tests are completed by their child without aid of others and submitted on time.
Parents will keep track of all course deadlines, pacing guides, and other expectations of distance learning, and communicate with the student's teacher as needed.
Parents will ensure that their student is available to take all grade level assessments and Istation testing (math and reading). Parents will deliver the student to their respective building to take the assessment(s) with Atoka Public School staff."
