This year, Atoka Public Schools will be joining the Oklahoma Scholastic Esports (OKSE). We will be participating in Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the high school, and the middle school will be participating in Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., Rocket League, and Fortnite.

Overwatch is a first-person shooter in which players join an international task force trying to restore peace to the world. Players use a variety of firearms (e.g., pistols, machine guns), arrows, and futuristic weapons (e.g., laser blasters) to attack enemies in team combat objectives. Combat is frenetic with realistic gunfire, cries of pain, and explosions. Splashes of blood briefly appear with each successful hit. One character is depicted smoking a cigar. So it gets an ESRB rating of T for Teens.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is the most current version of the classic N64 title know as Super Smash Bros. This is a fighting game that has some of Nintendo's (and some other franchise's) most known characters such as: Mario, Peach, Bowser, Link, Zelda, Kirby, Pikachu, and many more. These characters are pitted against each other to see who can come on top. There are multiple ways to compete in this game with OESL this year offering 3v3 Crew Battles and 1v1 matches. While being made in the same style as past games (very animated) this is still a fighting game so this title gets a rating of E10 for Everyone 10 and up.

Rocket League is a high octane car soccer game. This games takes soccer and slims up the teams and put the players in a rocket powered car. RL is a game that involves the combination of car racing and soccer, created and developed by Psyonix Studios. In the game, two teams of players are pitted against each other in a futuristic arena to duke it out in five-minute matches. The ESRB rating is E for Everyone.

Fortnite is one of the biggest games known the world over right now. Players will either play in a 2v2 box fight or a 4v4 zone war where great communication, strong builds, and good aim will determine which team comes out on top. Fortnite has a little bit of violence but the depictions of guns and violence in Fortnite are cartoon-like and there's no blood or gore. The game comes across as whimsical and even absurd at times, becuase of this the ESRB has given Fornite a T for Teen rating.

Goals

The goals of the eSports program are as follows:

Model acceptable and productive online behavior allowing students to become conscientious digital citizens.
Promote a safe and open environment for students with similar interests to form new friendships, learn valuable interpersonal skills - overall promoting social interaction within the club and personal growth.
Use video games as a medium to teach sportsmanship qualities and values to students.
Encourage students to interact with the online world in a safe manner.
